I am currently adjunct professor of art at Ventura College where I teach foundational courses in Drawing and Color & Design, and have a decade of teaching art appreciation and art history at the community college and university levels. For me, being an artist carries a civic responsibility to engage with my community.

Teen Oil Painting, Afternoon​​​​​​​ at Vita Art Center
Week 9, Aug 3 - Aug 7

Ages 13-18
This hands-on class designed just for teens! Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this course will introduce you to classic oil painting techniques in a fun and supportive environment. Learn how to mix colors, control brushwork, and build depth with light and shadow while creating your own masterpiece. With step-by-step instruction, demos, and plenty of studio time, you’ll gain a solid foundation in oil painting that will help you develop your unique artistic style.
Week 2: June 15-June 19

Ages 13-18

The class will draw with a variety of media including graphite, ink and charcoal. Students engage in drawing projects that encourage creative expression, concept development, and advancement of basic drawing skills. We will draw 3D objects to increase knowledge of the effects of light on form, volume and line.

This introductory class focuses on basic drawing techniques, learning how to observe objects from real life, and exploring a variety of drawing media. Through guided exercises, brief lectures, demonstrations, and fun hands-on experiences, students will build foundational skills in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Designed for beginners or anyone wanting to refresh their skills, this course prepares students for our next-level drawing class. Students will learn the essentials of drawing, including line work, shape construction, and an understanding of light and shadow. Through simple projects and observational practice, participants will gain confidence with materials while developing stronger drawing and seeing skills.
